Basic Skills

The Reading  Partners programme is aimed at Primary School children, but could be equally relevant in secondary schools.  The tools used are designed to build confidence so that children start to enjoy reading on their own and increase their aptitude for literacy.  Once a child enjoys using these basic skills, they will be well on the way to developing their potential.

A  volunteer, is partnered with a child to read together o for 30 minute sessions, usually during lunchtime. This would either be weekly or fortnightly.

Evaluations show progress is accelerated and teachers value the additional resource that volunteers can bring.
