Raising Aspirations

The potential for businesses to enrich the school curriculum and support individual pupils is vast.  Schools regularly request activities that provide opportunities and broaden young people’s horizons.

The Mentoring Programme is designed for students who are nearing their GCSE exams. The adult mentor supports the young person by working with them on a variety of topics aimed at helping them understand and achieve their potential.  The timing and frequency of meetings is agreed between the mentor and mentee.

Evidence shows that for some young people a mentor can be a lifeline to achieving potential. This can be measured both in terms of academic attainment and social and emotional well being.

“People like me act as role models and mentors.  Students get summer placements in companies like ours. The great part is that we are taking very marginal students and are successfully preparing them for university.”

A comprehensive Mentoring Handbook and support documentation including Mentor Application Form, Parental Consent Letter and sample Mentor Log Book are among the many resources available for this programme.
