Draw on your experiences and give something back

My Future My Choice

The My Future My Choice programme aims to raise aspirations and open the minds of children and young people to the vast range of opportunities available to them for their future.

It is aimed at young people from 9 -14 providing them with opportunities to work with business volunteers in the classroom, or have visits to the workplace.

The central element of the programme is the My Future My Choice "Top Trump" card game which provides a fun way of exploring different jobs and the aptitudes needed.

The final phase is Vision My Future, a coaching programme for 11-14 year olds,  focusing on building self-belief and helping young people to understand that their future success is within their own control.

My Future My Choice - 'Top Trumps' card game

Each pack contains 52 cards illustrating people at work. Each card is made up of five elements

1/ The job - a fun illustration of a person doing the role described in the card title.

2/ Job Description - a brief overview written in simple language about what the person on the card does.

3/ Family - each card is one of a family of four where similar jobs are grouped together.

4/ Job details - factors or skills required for that job (Creativity, Communication, Working with a Team, Using Numbers, Reading and Writing, Hands on Practical Skills, Scientific Knowledge).

Each factor is given a 'score' (these are indicative only).  A high number is not better than a lower one, and skill is better than another, just different.

5/Question - each card has a question aimed to stimulate discussion in the classroom.

Included in the pack are four 'Future' jobs.  These are made up jobs designed to help the young people start thinking about what jobs there might be in the future that don't exist now!

Full instructions for using the cards are in the packs.
