The first step into the "world of work" is going to involve a selection process. Competition could be fierce and therefore a professionally prepared CV and strong interview techniques are essential. Young people are bound to be nervous before their first interview. Building their self-esteem and helping them to understand how to prepare and what to expect are vital.
The CV writing and interview skills module is designed to be presented to a group of young people with optional exercises which will help them practice their new skills, you will find the module in the Business Resources section.
At GE Infrastructure in Baglan Bay the team worked with a group of young people through the Prince's Trust to help them move into paid employment. They established what careers were of interest and mocked up the job section of a local newspaper to match those career choices. The young people then had to respond as if to a real job advertisement and GE took them through the process (including a mock interview) acting the role of prospective employer. Examples of the format they created are below.
