The purpose of the governing body is to help the school to provide the best possible education for its pupils.
The governing body makes sure the school is well run, manages the school budget, sets targets for literacy and numeracy and ensures the curriculum is balanced and broad. It decides the number of teachers and pay policy, appoints the head and deputy and regulates staff conduct and discipline. After an Ofsted inspection it draws up a post inspection action plan.
Governors work closely with the head teacher’s role who organises, manages and controls the school day-to-day. The head teacher discusses the main aspects of school life with the governors and reports on how the school is managed.
