The Reading Partners programme is aimed at Primary School children, but could be equally relevant in secondary schools. The tools you use are designed to build confidence so that children start to enjoy reading on their own and increase their aptitude for literacy skills. Once a child enjoys using these basic skills, they will be well on the way to developing their potential.
As a volunteer, you would be partnered with a child to read together or play maths and problem solving games for 30 minute sessions, usually during lunchtime. This would either be weekly or fortnightly.
Evaluations show that volunteers can help to accelerate progress and teachers value the additional resource that they bring.
Full Guidance Notes and a Volunteer Handbook are available in Training and Resources

“My number partner has given me confidence to put my hand up in class … he showed me that maths can be really fun and exciting.”
