Design My Break is a competition for schools to help young people aged 11-14 to think about how they can make more of the time that they have at second break to improve their activity levels, nutrition and emotional wellbeing. We want to encourage young people to be physically healthier and raise their self-esteem.  The competition links together GE's support for education, Healthymagination and Olympic and Paralympic Games sponsorship.

Schools will be interested in their young people entering the competition as teachers tell us that it can be hard to re-focus young people on lessons when they return to the classroom after the mid-day break, losing valuable learning time

Prizes for the schools with the best ideas will include tickets to Olympic or Paralympic Games events during London 2012 and the opportunity to meet Olympic athletes.

The Design My Break website is being launched on 6th July and schools can express their interest, but can't apply until September.  They then have until mid-December to submit their ideas.

Become a GE Champion and maybe win tickets for the Olympic or Paralympic Games yourself

The main way that GE employees can support the competition  is to become a GE Champion.

Schools will be divided up into ten regions and each region will have a GE venue for their regional final.  Applications from the best eight schools from each region will be invited to present their idea and each of those schools will have a GE Champion allocated to them.

The role of the champion will be to guide them through planning their project and helping them with their presentation.  Schools who reach Regional Final level who are not located close to a GE site will still be able to have the support of a GE champion, but they will meet virtually rather than face to face.

The GE Champion will be invited to the Regional Final where they will have the opportunity to meet an Olympic or Paralympic athlete and get involved in Olympic Games themed activities, Champions who have worked with the winning teams will share the  prizes!

To apply to be a GE Champion register your interest on the GE Volunteers Portal
