My Future My Choice

My Future My Choice is a  programme aimed at young people in their final two years at primary school, it is designed to raise aspirations by giving a glimpse into some of the different opportunities there are for the future and how they relate to learning in school.  It is not designed

Part of the programme is the unique My Future My Choice card game devised by GE,  Bristol City Council and the Truro based agency Creative Edge.

It is  loosely based on the game Top Trumps. The cards represent 52 different job roles from the thousands that exist in the world. The cards come with full instructions to be used in the classroom by a teacher or with the help of a business volunteer.

Each card has an illustration of a job role, and scores seven important employability skills or capacities for that role. The business volunteer can use the cards to reveal what their job is like and how different types of jobs compare for the importance of the key skills or capacities for employability.

A variety of whole class, team activities and discussion can be structured across a teaching session.

The children need very little encouragement or instruction to enjoy playing the games. The role of the volunteer and teacher is to focus the children on the objective and ensure they end the session with greater awareness of the different jobs there are in the world and how they relate to learning in school.

A Volunteers Handbook  and Teacher's Handbook are available in Training and Resources
