In order to succeed in the transition from school or college to the world of work, young people should have a good understanding of business requirements and the skills and attitudes needed for a rewarding career.
By working with schools, GE volunteers can help students better understand which skills are most valued and what a business expects from its employees.
Projects such as developing interview techniques through mock interviews or conducting a workshop on cv writing are ways that business volunteers can help a young person reach that vital first step on the career ladder.
The materials to present a CV Writing and Interview Skills session are in the iCount Training and Resources section

There are many Enterprise programme run by people like Young Enterprise where volunteers from GE can act as business advisors.
One school in London have recognised that emulating television programmes such as the Apprentice and Dragon's Den is a good way of engaging their young people.
The Apprentice
This short programme runs over 6 weeks. Four teams each with a business advisor build a business and are pitched against each other to see who can be the most succesful,
This is the pitch used by the school in assembly to engage young people and encourage them to formally apply for a place on one of the teams - which makes a good link with cv writing!
