Volunteering provides an unique opportunity to make a difference to the future life of a young person or young people.
Schools benefit from the input of volunteers. The different perspective that business people bring is greatly valued. Even a small time commitment can have a lasting effect on a school and the young people within it.
Raise the aspirations of a teenager through a mentoring programme, help a young child learn to read, spark an interest in science or maths, give a grounding in financial literacy, share a hobby, train head teachers in change management, facilitate a meeting or even run a Lean Six Sigma project on a subject that is vital to school improvement.
Getting involved is simple
“Our six sigma project with a Bristol school focused on ‘attitude to learning’ because this was the main barrier to improving results. The target was to increase A/B grades in Years 7 to 10 from 65% to 98% in 18 months. In fact we achieved 98.5%. It felt great to know that I had helped to make a difference.” - Tim Edwards, Black Belt, GE Healthcare
